Saturday, July 28, 2007 - Phippsburg, ME - We are in high season at
the campground and that doesn't mean "High Cotton" for us. As soon
as people leave there are people to take their place. Kathy never
stops. Between making reservations, bagging lobsters, shucking
corn and dipping ice cream she answers all the questions a camper can
dream up.
Jerry mows, paint and build picnic tables. He worked with Chris (the
owner) the other night and increased the water pressure in the restroom.
I guess they got it a little high because the next day two of the women toilets
had blew the guts of the toilets free. They repaired an "Air Hockey Game"
after that. There is always something to do.
We went on our second whale watching expedition Thursday. Again there
were no whales to be found (for the second time). They gave us another
ticket for a return trip. The conclusion is Jerry has been on three whale
watching trips and has not seen a whale yet. He is the problem. We
have had 6 hours of cruising around the ocean with excellent weather and seas.
We replaced the curtains in the front of the motorhome today. The
others were getting old and looking bad. It looks much better now.
Saturday, July 14, 2007 - Phippsburg, ME - Well, one of us is a year older
now. We were going to go down to Portland and see the historic district and go
out on Casco Bay, but the weather simply did not cooperate. Instead, we went to
the new Harry Potter movie and out to dinner. We went out to Cook's Lobster
House which is rather famous in this area. The food was good and we got to watch
the fog roll in over the harbor. Since then, the weather has been fantastic - of
course. We are working this weekend and, boy is it busy. We had almost 30 people
check into the campground on Friday night and another 27 today. Just about full.
Tonight, we are having a birthday bash for all of the work campers and
seasonal folks born in July and that should be fun. There are a bunch of July
birthdays here so the cake better be big for all the names and candles - LOL.
Just thought we would let you know what is going on. More later.
Tuesday , July 10 , 2007 - Phippsburg, ME -
We haven't written anything lately because we have been relaxing and
enjoying the weather. We have been working our 2 1/2 days and resting the
other 5 days. We have had some dinners with other workampers and we have
enjoyed many campfires at night. The temperatures have been in the 50's at
night and mid 70's during the day. If this keeps up we may be here next
summer.
We did go to the Maine Maritime Museum located in Bath. The area is
rich with ship building traditions and seafaring adventures. The museum is
actually the grounds of an old shipyard. We walked through the old
buildings that made the old square riggers and sloops. It was a much
larger display than what we had originally expected. There are many
exhibits and cruises you can take. We will be returning to see the rest of
the exhibits. The ticket lets us in for 2 days.
The campers filled the park the first week of July and the season really got
started. The major projects were completed on time (building
2 cabins and building a restroom in the Rec Hall). It is now the
normal routine for all of us.
Be sure and check the new pictures in Maine for Bailey's Island and
Meadowbrook Campground.
