The RV - Our Home

Our home is 37' long and about 9' wide.  We thought you might like to know what it has and what is like living around the country in a box.

Home weighs (fully loaded) about 26,000 lbs.. It is powered by a 460 cu. in. Ford motor and 4 speed automatic transmission.

It has 2 leather seats up front that swivel to become chairs for the den also.  The driver seat is a 6 way power seat and both have reclining backs.  There is a TV between the seats and a DVD player.  We have satellite radio.

The den is right behind this area and has an additional chair, small built in folding table and sofa.  The sofa is a hide-a-bed for additional sleeping.

The kitchen and dinette are next.  The kitchen has a 3 burner gas stove, oven, microwave and refrigerator/freezer. The refrigerator can run on electricity or propane.  There is a vent -a-hood above the stove and a fan vent  in the ceiling.  The dinette has two built in chairs that swivel.

There is a pantry and underneath the pantry is our washer/dryer.  The washer/dryer is one unit.  When you put a load in it washes and dries before the cycle is finished.  You can do a load of wash while you are traveling down the road.

The bathroom has a shower, linen closet, built-in clothes hamper, toilet and sink.  There is a skylight above the shower and a vent fan in the ceiling.

The bedroom has a island queen bed, 4 closets,  2 night stands and a TV.

There is storage everywhere.  We have a basement.  These are the storage bays under our home.

We have an awning that rolls out on the side to create a patio area.

We are fully self-contained.  All the lights are 12 volts.  We have a gas furnace.  There are 2 batteries that power all the 12 volt items.  The batteries are recharged when we are plugged in at a RV campsite, when the motor is running or when the generator is running.  There is a 7kw Onan generator that is capable of running everything we have.  There are two air-conditioners on  the roof that produce 3 tons of cooling.  Enough for a small home.  When traveling down the road we will run the generator and run both air-conditioners.

We have Dish TV and set-up the dish where ever we are.  Kathy is good at finding the satellites.  We have two laptops (two geeks can't share one as much as we are on them).  To have access to the internet we use a cell phone air card that gets as high as 150kb.  We have created a wireless network between our 2 laptops that allows us to share the single access point for the internet.  A lot of the parks also have wi-fi and we use that when they do.

There are 3 tanks onboard for water. One for fresh water to drink, one for holding grey water (water from the sinks and washer) and one for holding the sewer.

We carry enough propane with us to last about 5 months of heating and cooking.

People that full time in an RV really think of it as home.  When we visit places and people we prefer to stay in our home.

We do enjoy our home and have noticed that it requires cleaning just as a house does.  That is the down-side.  Traveling all the time requires a lot of exterior and interior cleaning.  You, also, need to tighten screws and bolts all the time since traveling vibrates some things loose.

As we say, "If we don't like our neighbors, we just move.  We can be packed and gone in under 30 minutes.".

We tow a car behind us to use when we stop.

That is a quick look at our home.  If you want a look and we are in the area, we will be glad to have you over to our home.
