Pergo Floor
Our home is twelve years old and the carpet and hardwood was the
original flooring. Kathy and I thought about replacing it for about
a year. She was willing to replace it instantly. I, on
the other hand, wanted to wait until we returned to Texas this year.
I am not the handyman type. I try to look at everything that can go
wrong and resolve the issue before it happens. She let me have my way. By the time we got back I was ready to
change it out.
The kitchen was hardwood and the den was carpet. The hardwood was
warped from a previous water leak in the kitchen and the carpet was just
twelve year old dirty carpet.
Replacing the flooring with Pergo is easy. None of the things I
thought would go wrong happened. The flooring snaps
together and installs very easily. There are a few things you should
know before you start and I will let you in on the things I discovered.
Pergo comes in different sizes. Determine the thickness you need
by first removing your old floor and measure what clearance you need
anywhere you are putting the floor under something. I have a table
in the kitchen that is anchored to the wall and has a leg that the
original floor went under. In a doorway the floor went under the
wall. When I measured I found the perfect floor to go under all of
the places I needed.
Be sure and leave the 1/4" clearance around the edge.
The hardest part of the project for me was the trim work around the
walls and cabinets. I am a rather large person and working in this
confined area made me realize how large I am.
We are both very happy with the outcome of this project. It has
made our home much better looking and cleaning the floor the so much
easier.
